At a temperature of 35 C the calceus waters come out of the ground, fall down the mountain side and form many pools which overflow to form stalactites, hence the name Cotton Castle (the translation of Pamukkale). Bathing in the pleasantly warm waters has a positive effects on all the people with problems of blood circulation, nerve system, hearth, rheumatism, skin diseases etc. The ruins of the ancient city of Hierapolis dating from 190 B.C. can also be seen in this area
